SPINOLUTION WHEELFLYERS have different speeds and capacities BASED ON THE MODEL.

Fine yarns require faster speeds than bulky yarns.

Bulky yarns require a bobbin with a larger capacity.

The ounces used to determine each flyer size are based on medium weight worsted wool capacity.

WHICH FLYER SIZE IS BEST FOR YOU?

  • 4 ounce flyer - popular for spinning fine to light worsted weight yarns. Many antique and traditional wheels have bobbins about the same size as our 4 ounce bobbin. The 4 ounce flyer is available on the Queen Bee, Pollywog, and Echo. The only bobbin size that can fit on a 4 ounce flyer is a 4 ounce bobbin.

  • 4A ounce flyer - same size as the 4 ounce flyer with a built-in accelerator (an additional whorl) for extra high speeds for spinning extra fine cobweb yarns and short staple fibers. The 4A flyer design is available for the Firefly, Monarch, and Echo. The only bobbin size that can fit on a 4A flyer is a 4 ounce bobbin.

  • 8 ounce flyer - comparable to the standard or classic size of popular modern brands of spinning wheels on the market today. Our customers find the 8 oz a perfect size for spinning and plying all weights of yarn for knitting and crochet. The 8 ounce flyer is available on the Firefly, Monarch, Echo, and Hopper. The only bobbin size that can fit on an 8 ounce flyer is an 8 ounce bobbin.

  • 12 ounce flyer - engineered for customers who purchase a Pollywog and want a larger flyer and bobbin size. This flyer does not fit on any wheels other than the Pollywog. This size is popular for spinning and plying bulkier yarns and more yardage on the Pollywog. The only bobbin size that can fit on a 12 ounce flyer is a 12 ounce bobbin.

  • 16 ounce flyer - popular for spinners wanting to spin medium weight to bulky yarns and are considering a wheel that is both portable and can spin art yarns. Both current 8 ounce bobbins and 16 ounce bobbins fit on a 16 ounce flyer. The 16 ounce flyer is available for the Echo, Hopper, Monarch, and Firefly. Old 8 ounce bobbins may not fit on a 16 ounce flyer head. Only 8 ounce bobbins with a 3/8” hole will fit on 16 ounce flyers. 8 ounce bobbins manufactured after 2019 will fit on 16 ounce flyers.

  • 32 ounce flyer - for production art and bulky yarn spinners with spacious bobbin capacity for big projects, and big textures. Although this flyer size can spin light worsted weight yarn, the momentum might be too heavy for spinners to use it as a primary size for lightweight yarns. The 32 ounce flyer is available for the Echo, Hopper, Monarch, and Firefly.

  • 64 ounce flyer - exclusive to SpinOlution, and is the largest bobbin capacity in the industry. Expert production spinners find this size ideal for spinning single-ply bulky weight yarns. Each one is crafted and balanced by hand. The 64 ounce flyer and bobbin is available on the Monarch and Firefly.

 

FLYER COMPATIBILITY

The Monarch & Firefly flyer can be used on either the Monarch or Firefly.

The Echo flyer can be used on the Echo or Firefly.

The Pollywog flyer can only be used on the Pollywog.

The Hopper flyer can only be used on the Hopper.

FLYER OPTIONS

The Monarch & Firefly flyer comes in 5 sizes: 4A, 8, 16, 32, and 64

The Echo flyer comes in 5 sizes: 4, 4A, 8, 16, 32.

The Pollywog flyer comes in 2 sizes: 4 (standard) and 12.

The Hopper flyer comes in 3 sizes: 8, 16, 32

The Bullfrog flyer comes in 16 oz and is specific to the Bullfrog.

The Queen Bee, King Bee, and Worker Bee flyers cannot be changed.

PAULYWINDER

The Monarch/Firefly flyer requires a riser to be compatible with the PaulyWinder on the Firefly base. Contact a dealer to purchase this riser.

An Echo flyer provides the correct height on a Firefly Base to use the PaulyWinder.
